The Life Guards Jäger Regiment was created in 1796 as the Life Guard Jäger Battalion. It participated in hostilities for the first time in 1805 near Austerlitz. In 1806 the name was changed to Life Guards Jaeger Regiment, in 1855-1870 - to the Life Guards Gatchina Regiment. The regiment took part in all the wars waged by Russia in the 19th - early 20th centuries. The regiment was awarded the St. George regimental banner, St. George trumpets and signs on the caps.
