From the archive of the family of Rear Admiral Alexander Vladimirovich Razvozov (1879 - 1920).

 

Alexander Alexandrovich von der Osten-Driesen (1852 - after 1904) was Major General, commander of the 2nd Brigade of the 15th Cavalry Division. He was born in 1852 in the family of Cavalry General Alexander Fedorovich von der Osten-Driesen. He came from the nobility of St. Petersburg Province of the Lutheran faith. The Russian branch of the Osten-Driesens came from the royal Prussian officer Karl-Wilhelm-Friedrich von der Osten-Driesen, who moved to Courland in 1781 and entered the Russian military service in 1795. He was enrolled in the service of the Corps of Pages. On January 31, 1873 he was promoted to chamber-page. On August 10, 1873, he was promoted to the cornet of His Majesty's Life Guards Cuirassier Regiment. On July 5, 1875 in the rank of lieutenant, he was dismissed from service for domestic reasons. On March 6, 1876 he was again assigned to serve as a lieutenant in the 6th Turkestan Infantry Battalion. On May 11, 1876 he was transferred to the Semirechensk Cossack army as a centurion. Participated in the conquest of the Kokand Khanate, for which he was awarded the bronze medal "For the conquest of the Kokand Khanate in 1875-1876". On September 28, 1877, he was promoted to the esauls for distinction and on the same day he was assigned to the 12th Don Cossack regiment to serve. He participated in the Russian-Turkish War of 1877 - 1878; in affairs and skirmishes at the villages of Pyrgos and Khan-Gal-Chesme (November 5 and 7), at the villages of Trestenik and Mechka (November 14), for which he was awarded the Order of St. Stanislav, 3rd degree with swords and a bow, in shootout near the village of Iovan-Chiftlik (November 23); in the repulsion of the army of Suleiman Pasha near the villages of Trestenik and Mechka (November 30), for which he was awarded the Order of St. Anna, 3rd degree with swords and bow; in the reconnaissance of the Ruschuk fortress (January 19-21), in the capture of the train station near the village of Cherveno-Vody (May 21-24). On May 7, 1878 he was assigned to the Her Majesty's Life-Guards Ulan regiment. He was also awarded the Romanian Iron Cross for Plevna and a light bronze medal in memory of the war with Turkey. On August 28, 1878, he was transferred as staff-captain to Her Majesty's Life-Guards Ulan Regiment. In 1881 he took part in the funeral of Emperor Alexander II. In 1883, as part of the 1st Squadron of the Leib-Lancer he participated in the coronation of Emperor Alexander III. On August 30, 1883 he was promoted to captain. He commanded a squadron. On August 30, 1893 he was promoted to colonel. On December 15, 1894, he was appointed head of the economic unit of the regiment. In 1897 he was appointed assistant regiment commander for combat units. On July 12, 1899, he took part in the funeral of the Grand Duke Georgy Alexandrovich Romanoff (and bore the Order of the Grand Duke). On April 19, 1900 he was appointed commander of the 31st Riga Dragoon Regiment. On September 9, 1904 he was promoted to major general and appointed commander of the 2nd Brigade of the 15th Cavalry Division. Ekaterina Konstantinovna von der Osten-Driesen (von Strandtmann) (1856, Tsarskoe Selo - 1894, Hamburg) was the mother of Maria Alexandrovna Razvozova, wife of Rear Admiral A.V. Razvozov, grandmother of Maria Alexandorvna Kolchak.
