In 1898 the Ihetuan (Boxing) uprising broke out with the support of the government in China against foreign interference in the economy, internal politics and religious life of China. In response, a military alliance was created, which included the Russian Empire, the USA, the German Empire, Great Britain, France, the Japanese Empire, Austria-Hungary and Italy. In August 1900 the uprising was suppressed, and by May 1901 the last detachments of the Ichetuanians had been defeated.
