At the end of the 1830s. The main holy book of Muslims was translated from Arabic into French by the dragoman at the French embassy in Iran, the famous orientalist and Arabist Albin (Albert) de Biberstein-Kazimirski (1808-1887).
The Koran was translated into Russian from Kazimirski's French translation by K. Nikolaev. This translation was first published in 1864, and was later reprinted several times (1865, 1876, 1880 and 1901) and was especially popular in the second half of the 19th century. This was the last Russian translation of the Koran, made not from the original, but through the medium of any of the European languages.
