Auf Vorsatz Inschrift in Deckweiss: "It has been the aim of the correspondent to illustrate for the British public the heroic part performed by their Russian Allies in the Great War.
The photographs represent but a few selection of some 2000 taken while the Russian Army and have been reproduced in practically every illustrated journal in the world as confirmation of the Russian official reports as to the moraland conduct of The Imperial Armies.
These photographs were taken specially for “The Daily Mirror”, “The Times History of the War”, “Field Notes from the Russian Front”, and “The Russian Campaign" ".

Der britische Fotograf George H. Mewes befand sich zusammen mit dem amerikanischen Kriegsjournalisten Stanley Washburn (1878-1950) in Russland an der Front in den Jahren 1914-1915. Viele dieser Fotos wurden in diversen Periodika und Buchausgaben veröffentlicht, wie etwa in The National Geographic Magazine (Volume 31, No. 4 [April 1917]) und dem Buch von Stanley Washburn "THE RUSSIAN CAMPAIGN . APRIL TO AUGUST, 1915 ".
