Number "63028" on the bottom left. Rectangular stamp by J. Kuhn's photo studio “Photographies J. Kuhn / 220, rue de Rivoli, Paris / English spoken / Man Spricht Deutsch” and a pencil inscription in French “63.028 Grenadierde Palais [unreadable]” on the reverse side.


Brothers de Jong (De Jongh frères) - photographers Edouard and Francis de Jong, who had a photo studio in Neuilly-sur-Seine since 1879. The brothers worked in various European countries, including Russia where they had taken many photographs of the Russian Imperial Army.

 J. Kuhn was active in Paris from 1885 with his company "Compagnie Photographique", located at the fashionable Rue de Rivoli 170-174-220. He used the dry plate-process. He was photographer of the Duke d' Orléans in 1890. Kuhn was hugely productive as a publisher: prints, cartes stereo, stereoscopes, furthermore books, pictures of various countries and celebrities. He was mentioned in the trade almanac Didot-Bottin in 1891.
